the study was comprehensively detailed subsequently in chapter one and other
chapters respectively along with questionnaires which contributes to the fact
or data gathered in chapter one are discussed in detail the introduction,
background of the study, statement of the problems, objectives of the study,
significance of the study and research questions. In chapter two, the research
dealt with the literature review under which in one way or the other gave
useful suggestion to the research problem. Chapter three dealt with the
presentation of research methods used in this study, research design, method of
data collection simple size, sampling techniques and data analysis techniques

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Productivity in an organization today lies generally on
certain factors which relatively affect them.
In other words, productivity lies on the
positive or negative factors which either increase or decreases level of output
in an organization.
Low productivity in an organization in a
society or economy like Nigeria
is as a result of some factors which when corrected leads to high productivity
which has tremendous benefits.
Due to the relationship between low
productivity and under development which has played Nigerian economy. The
government has been on the mission to see that productivity maintains an
impressive level, so as to eradicate low productivity or reduce it to the
bearest level.
However, this chapter seeks to emphasize
on the background of this problem, and some other relevant information in the
area of scope and significance of the analysis of this research problem.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Both the private and public organization has production
as the interrelationship between input and output.
Inputs are resources such as labour
materials and work done products distributed or services rendered.
In Nigeria, works have been exercising
some or certain problems that have been militating against productivity level
which has completely affected the gross domestic product of the nation.
The government is trying to see that
productivity maintains an impressive level, the ministry of labour and productivity
center etc, are doing everything possible to alleviate the problems of low
productivity of the Nigeria
workers.
In view of these, one may wonder why the
Nigerian workers are faced with the problem of low productivity, inspite of all
the government efforts to improve productivity.
Briefly, we take short history of power
holding which is a service organization in viewing the general Nigeria
workers.
Electricity development in Nigeria started towards the end of the 19th
century, when the first generating plant was instilled in the city of Lagos in 1989. Later,
other electricity undertakings were set up by the native and municipal
authorities in different parts of the country. In 1950, in order to integrate
power development in the country and make it effective, the federal government
passed the electricity corporation of Nigeria ordinance No 15 of 1950.
This ordinance brought under one umbrella
all the electricity undertakings owned and controlled by the native and
municipal authorities under the public works department. The electricity body
responsible for generating, transmitting, distributing and the sales of
electricity in Nigeria.
By Decree No 24of 27th June
1972, the electricity corporation of Nigeria (ECN) and Niger Dams Authority
(NDA) were merged by the federal government to become the national electric
power authority (NEPA). Power generation in Nigeria started with r humble but
steady beginning with only the Ijors, Delta, Egbin, Sapele, Afan thermal power
stations, Kainji Jebba and shiroro hydro power station, with the generation
capacity increased from 20mw to over 6,000mw in the year 2002.
